Random bits of life

‘uggh. Just can’t get over it.

I haven’t blogged on the house lately, so guess what today’s topic is?

Chez Rebaud has a new roof with fancy flashing, I might add. Had it completed just in time for the coming winter. Though, it’s been beautifully sunny and relatively warm that past few weeks.

In preparing the house for stucco repair and exterior paint and eventual new landscaping, Sylvain decided to start attacking the Aloe plant in our side yard. After renting an electric chainsaw from Home Depot, he managed to take most of it down. I did my part and raked whatever was cut into a huge pile (to be disposed of this coming weekend). Sunday, after taking Lucie for a long walk to Mt. Davidson, we then focused efforts on the bamboo plants. Advice: if you want bamboo, keep it in potsbecause it is a b**** and a half to get rid of. Monday, Columbus Day, Sylvain had rented a gas-powered chainsaw to thoroughly rid the yard of the aloe plant.

I’m excited for the holidays this year! I bought the candy for the droves of trick-or-treaters I hope we will have and some garland to decorate our ghetto support post. Will need to buy pumpkins at some point this weekend and partake in some pumpkin carving. Also, looking forward to Thanksgiving and having a delicious and cozy meal with friends and family. And especially looking forward to Christmas, as this will be the first Christmas we celebrate in Chez Rebaud (we were in Paris last year), complete with dcor and THE TREE!

Neighborhood haps

Now, normally, I believe that all people are good until they do something to f-it up. Cases in point, our neighbors, A and B:

Neighbor A has resorted to reserving the parking spot in front of their house Thursday evenings by placing their trash/recycle bins in the spotleaving just the right amount of space to park their car there, which leaves me to park a few houses up. Now, Im not complaining that I need schlep my stuff/groceries/Lucie a few houses down or that I could simply rectify the problem by moving the bins myselfbut its the principle of it all. Even with the roofing workers, whose truck was temporarily blocking their driveway to pack up, Neighbor A was irritated that they couldnt move fast enough. Neighbor A has been crossed off the holiday treat list.

Neighbor B was never on the holiday treat list and after some new revelations, Neighbor B will never ever be on the holiday treat list. Some of you may have heard the story alreadya few days after we had moved in Lucie and I were confronted by Neighbor B, who informed me that Lucie wasnt welcome at the park, its not an off-leash area, its needed for the kids, etc., etc. Nice welcome to the neighborhood, huh? After talking with other dog owners in the area, Neighbor B is well known as the anti-dog person. Okay, fine, Neighbor B prefers feline to canine, as long as Neighbor B stays out of my business, Ill stay out of theirs. Recently, the police have been cracking down on us off-leashers. The cops that do make it to the park, seem annoyed that they got called out to our tiny parkagain. Since the police cant tell us who called, it was hinted at and deduced that Neighbor B is calling (from her home, no less) the police to tell them of vicious dogs in park (which is completely untrue) every few weeks. Obviously, someones got way too much time on their hands. I think that the SFPD has more important things to do than tell people to put their dogs on leash and go home. Besides, its not like kids are lining up to play at this park but thats another topic for another time.
