This past weekend, S & I were in Las Vegas for my uncle’s surprise 50th birthday! It was a F-U-N time had by all. After checking into the Luxor, we met friends for dinner at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris for some yummy French food. Then, we made our way to the Border Grille at Mandalay Bay for “surprise” cocktails. (Yes, my uncle was completely surprised!) After cocktails, S & I and others (Gerard, Randy, Jeff, Debra, and Kara) headed down to Slots ‘a Fun under Randy’s suggestion. Slots ‘a Fun was quite that – especially since the table games were so cheap. ($5 blackjack, $3 craps, etc…) It’s a price to pay since the place is so smoky and pretty ghetto, if you ask me. Instead of winning cars, you can choose from either an ATV or Honda scooter. Yah.

All hugs at Paris
Saturday morning, we made our requisite visit to the Bellagio for brunch. (Which is THE BEST BRUNCH BUFFET EVER! Shame on you if go elsewhere. I hear the buffet at the new Wynn is just as good.)
After walking about, Sylvain and I ended up at the poker room at the Luxor. S talked me into playing Limit Texas Hold’em. I was a bit nervous – but had no reason to be since I did fairly well. $30+ well! Before we knew it, it was time to get ready for the birthday dinner at Caesar’s.
The one amazing thing about Vega$ is that it is constantly changing. Everytime we go there, something is new. New clubs, new facades, new casinos…anyway, I digress.
Dinner was at Chinois at Caesar’s. It was a great party, but we didn’t stick around to find out what the club scene was like. We agreed to meet Jeff & Randy at the Palms. But changed the meeting place to the Luxor.
Props to the westsiiide!
Rub the buddha belly for luck!
Finding a $5 table game on a Saturday night is near impossible if you’re not downtown. So, S & I headed back to the poker tables. It was a lot more serious this time around and the dudes sitting next to me were being jerks. So after figuring that I broke even, I headed out to sleep.
Sunday am, we met the family at the House of Blues for the Sunday gospel buffet brunch – way fun! Even though, it wasn’t the Bellagio, I can’t resist biscuits and gravy for brunch. Then we were back on a plane to SF.
Today, Tuesday is our 2nd wedding anniversary. After saying we wouldn’t buy each other something, S surprised me with a pre-Vega$ present.
Ah! Nothing like a blue bag!
We just got back from a wonderful dinner at Jack Falstaff – I give it ****. The heirloom tomatoes in the salad were just so sweet and so delicious. I forgot that tomatoes are supposed to taste like that. My chicken, mashers and broccoli rabe hit the spot and the huckleberry with a lemon-almond-corn shortcake with vanilla ice cream was divine.
2nd year is cotton (traditional) or china (modern). We opted for traditional and had bought ourselves some indulgent cotton robes from Frette. I think that I mentioned that earlier.
