Random bits of life

I have a penchant for keeping more than one book on my nightstand and pick up whatever I’m in the mood for.

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell – I’ve been hearing a lot about this author and his books. (Blink is actually Gladwell’s second book.) I’m only into the second chapter and it’s pretty intriguing. If you haven’t heard of it, in Blink Gladwell examines how people are able to make snap judgments. Right/correct ones, at that.

ella in europe.jpeg

Ella in Europe by Michael Konik – A dog sitting in Paris with the Tour Eiffel in the background? Of course, I had to get it. It’s actually the story of a Los Angeleno and his pooch Ella and their journey across Europe. I last left them off in Germany and though it’s a cool thing to be able to bring your pooch with you to all these spectacular places, it’s a bit tiring to hear how the author is still blown away that HIS dog is sitting here, peeing there, on a train…etc. Geared more towards the American dog owner, since a European one wouldn’t be phased by this at all.

French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano – So far, I’ve learned to drink champagne (hmm, isn’t the author the CEO of Veuve-Cliquot?), frequent farmer’s markets, cook with what’s in season, and to not be afraid to spice things up, literally. There are some pretty good recipes in the book – I’ll let you know if I make any of them.

A Guide to Elegance by Genevieve Antoine Dariaux – It seems a bit dated in the beginning. Something about white gloves…anyway, it’s a nice book to have since elegance never goes out of style.

Soon to be added to the nightstand: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by JK Rowling
