We had a lovely Easter BBQ lunch at our house with family and friends and fabulous weather. An easter egg “hunt” for the kids and delicious food. Mads was dressed in her $14 Easter best – good thing too, as she managed to spill red berry smoothie AND had chocolate smudges down the front of her dress. All that, and I managed to take only one picture:
Yes, it tastes as sinful as it looks.
Introducing the Bundt of Doom! I went a bit overboard with the cheese, so really, it was the Bundt of Cheesy Doom, but nothing beats melted Fontina. Yum!
Despite our change in plans this past weekend, we still managed to busy ourselves. If you must know, you can ask him. The weather was just GORGEOUS, so on Sunday, we had a lovely family outing to Fisherman’s Wharf. Since Mads is still on her Nemo kick, our intention was to visit the Aquarium of the Bay, whose exhibits are specific to the animals and ecosystem of the SF Bay and surrounding waters. Instead, we had lunch at the Sea Lion cafe, with view of the sea lions, bien sur.
Before the Fish ‘n Chips at the Sea Lion cafe
Then we walked to Ghiradelli Square for a…sigh…sundae. We walked, right? Mads is in this vicious cycle of walking on her own-riding in the stroller-being carried (ugh, which is the worst because she is tres lourde right now). She, of course, enjoys walking on her own, and refuses to hold hands with mama or papa.
…as mentioned above
Ma-donna? Have you heard Madonna’s new single, 4 minutes? Well, it’s very NellyFurtadoLoose and reeks of Timbaland, and I L-O-V-E it! What a lovely surprise when I logged onto Rhapsody this morning. Madge’s record groups also released a special remix album of the song she did with Missy Elliott (Into the Hollywood Groove) for the Gap commercial and the infamous 2003 MTV performance with Christina and Britney.
So, there’s an unspoken rule in our house that we won’t allow too much kiddie-centric music, read: Raffi, The Doodlebops, etc. As of late, Mads is getting a complete diet of Diana Krall, John Legend, Kayne West, Fergie, Carla Bruni and Feist (or whatever we’re listening to at the moment). I’ve also been trying to get her to dance when music comes on, but she seems to be very particular to which songs she will dance to. Last night, she went absolutely W-I-L-D, WILD! when Sea Lion Woman (go figure?) was playing. I’m talking crazy woman here – unfortch we didn’t catch it on video…perhaps next time.
No, it’s not me…but everyone else is! 4 5 of our friends are expecting this June, August and 2 in September!
It’s been busy, busy the past couple weeks.
We spent the holiday weekend in South Lake with the peeps that work with S. I suppose it was okay, as far as spending the weekend with your spouse’s coworkers and their significant others/family with a sick toddler, who you had to take to the ER because her fever wasn’t going down and subject her to unpleasant temperature taking. Yah, okay considering.
The following weekend, our friend Alex arrived (for work, but was staying with us). The boys rented Harley’s that Sunday and went for an all day ride, while I had a lovely girls’ day out with Mads and my mom.
Mr. Loyd’s 2nd period Biology honor class
…was where I was all of last week. Under recommendation of my manager, I signed up for a Bioscience Essentials for Industry Professionals course through UC Berkeley Extension. I was looking forward to being out of the office and spending a week downtown.
The first day of the course was pretty straightforward, basics of Biology, Chemistry and Physics covered. Then, getting into organic chemistry, molecular biology, molecular chemistry, genetics…all reminiscent of sophomore year when I had to lug around the 50 pound book for class. If I have serious back issues, it all started there. By the end of the 2nd day, I was ready to cry. The subject matter had swiftly gone WAY over my head. Things took a turn for the better on day 4, when immunology, auto-immune diseases, cancer and AIDS were covered. Despite it being the last day of the course, Friday morning was the most depressing. Topics covered were: Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and Alzheimer’s – talk about a doozy of a morning.
Pink is the new Orange
One thing I like about WFM is that they sample the fruits they are selling. A few weeks ago, I came across the Cara Cara Orange. Yum! It was juicy and sweet and…duh…citrus-y. The little sticker described them as a “pink navel”. The flesh isn’t orange, but isn’t red like Blood Oranges, it’s in between. Anyways, I could eat them all day, if I could. Well, at least to offset the box of Tagalongs I devoured last week. D’oh!
Maybe I’m Amazed
It just amazes me how much Mads understands these days! I can ask her to get her shoes and she can get them and bring them to me, she’ll even try to put them on herself. Same with her jacket. She’s been eating more and more with fork and is definitely one of the carniverous type – steak, ham, sausages, hot dogs, this little girl eats it all. Still partial to mac & cheese, she won’t eat pasta shapes that are different. Well, you win some, you lose some. A recent win, spinach. As in spinach quiche. Yum!
