forgot to thank JP & Rachael for the link love…
In chatting with my cousin the other day, I realized that we are probably way behind in the preschool game. Mads’ is only 13+ months! There are two lovely preschools in the confines of Miraloma Park – ideal location! The word is that Mads’ current day care is going to start a preschool program – I hope that they get certified soon! Or in time for Mads to attend. That, would be even MORE ideal! I found a site where they have preschool reviews that include data like: other schools applied to, school graduates have gone on to…oy!
There’s a blog I read frequently – and it’s got me thinking that a move down the peninsula wouldn’t be so bad after all. Citymama paints such a pretty picture of life in the ‘burbs – it’s just got me wondering.
Last night, S was working late, so it was just the girls at home. It was probably one of the nicer nights, too. We didn’t do anything special, but it was just…nice. I picked up Mads at daycare and we headed off to the grocery store to pick up a few things. Surprisingly, Mads didn’t grab for stuff from the cart, but rather pointed at the signs hanging from the ceiling and the balloons floating above her and had her own conversations. I prepped everyone’s dinner but mine and got to tidy up the kitchen while Mads ate – this self-feeding thing is GREAT! After dinner, we walked I followed Mads around the house, carefully played around her new favorite spot (hearth/fireplace) in the house (to do: buy that darn fireplace screen) and read books.
Reading books is our new favorite activity. Mads will go pick a book, hand it to me and then proceed to sit in my lap while I read her the book. (I’ve read First Book of Sushi way too many times this week.) She’ll even “read” books on her own – which is something I hope that will carry over into her childhood.
After a quick bath, Mads wanted to play in the shower instead, a change into jammies, we were relaxing on the couch with a bottle of Clover dairy’s finest Organic Vitamin D milk and Jakers! (animated series about little farm animals growing up in rural Ireland – how is that not cute?) on the toob. At 8.30p I put her down to sleep without a fight (surprisingly) and I putzed around until Grey’s Anatomy was on. (Will watch Ugly Betty later this weekend.)
Nights like that, I’m starting to wonder why I’m at work all day.
I’m in the middle of reviewing a dense product manual and need a break.
Time is flying and the year is almost over. How do I know this you ask? Well, Target is already loading up the shelves with Christmas lights and decorations.
I thought that we were going to have an easy Fall, but no. After that first wave of parties, came the 2nd. Small family dinner for my mom’s birthday…co-ed wedding shower…housewarming (that we didn’t make)…another birthday party this coming weekend.
We’re planning to visit cousins this weekend and try on halloween costumes. I’d like to avoid buying a new one (reduce, reuse, recycle – jack johnson, anyone?).
Also, my dear friend Heidi, my freshman year college roomie is coming to visit SF – so we’ll be meeting up Sunday.
Oh yeah, Mads is walking now if you haven’t heard. She doesn’t run off like I thought she would, but she’s more interested in climbing up and off of things. Just another thing to worry about.
Still trying to figure out the picture thing. Now the photos are too big! Uggh.
10m are up!
Or as I like to call it – watching the MTV VMA show. (This makes up for the hours I listen to the classical station or NPR in the car.)
Let’s get it over – poor, poor Britney. Poor Britney. Under so much pressure to deliver and she doesn’t. It was painful to watch. Time for her to “retireâ€. But don’t rip on the paunch – she’s had two kids and looks better than me after having one. So yes, there were folks that I hadn’t heard of…some that I’m tired of hearing of (Hey There Delilah…anyone?)…and that John Norris – he obvs didn’t check a mirror before he went on-air. His stylist needs to go. Thought Justin Timberlake’s stab at reality shows on MTV in front of LC, Audrina & Whitney was pretty funny, am looking forward to watching last night’s ep.
Birthday Bonanza
The past weekend we went to three, yes three!, birthday parties!
Friday was a surprise party for my mom at the ever-so-fun Tonga Room at the Fairmont – and boy was she surprised! We celebrated with friends & family. My uncle even tried to get a former flame to attend – his agent said he’d go for $5k!
Saturday, was a surprise party for my uncle – a lovely group dinner at Greens. Greens is probably SF’s oldest vegetarian resto with a fabulous location – Fort Mason – and spectacular views! (This, surprisingly, was my first time there!) Mads was “well-behavedâ€, enjoying her vegetarian eats (corn empanadas) and especially enjoying the chocolate birthday cake.
Sunday, we headed down to the children’s playground at Yerba Buena Gardens at Moscone Center for a birthday celebration for a “friend†of Mads’ (read: a fellow day care attendee). This was the first time at this particular park for us and Mads LOVED it! The slides here are higher and faster and telling by the look on her face, this peanut is a thrill seeker! We’ll be back here for sure.
No, I haven’t found a time capsule yet – I’ve got until 2024, right? Â Â
