As we were finishing up phase 1 of weeding the yard last weekend, our neighbor graciously handed us comp tickets to the ballet for Tuesday night. S isn’t a big fan of people dancing around in tights, so I called on Miss Darling to see if she’d accompany me. We met in front of the theatre, wearing the same red coat that we had bought at the same time years ago – probably time to get new coats, eh? – and caught up over a glass of cabernet before the performance. The performance was fantastic! The first two pieces were powerful and beautiful at the same time and principal dancer Yuan Yuan Tan is just amazing! The third piece, I don’t know, was different. Modern, avant garde, whatever you want to call it, it was different. It was well received by the crowd, so maybe it was just me. It was first performed in Stuttgart, if that gives you an inkling of what it may be.
Looking forward to vacation next month (already!) – we’re set on the Emerald Isle. Since we’ll only be there a few days, we’re headed straight for the western / southwestern part of the country. Driving on the left side of the road in a manual transmission car? It’ll be fun! Yummy pub food, Guinness and Jameson’s awaits.
Speaking of Ireland, looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day – not that we have plans to head out to a pub – but because there are plans to employ the slow cooker for corned beef and cabbage. I’ve had a crazy St. Patty’s day or two in the past so I think I’ll be okay with a nice, comfy dinner at home.
My baby daddy starts his new gig today. All I will say is that it’s a great learning and career opportunity and that he would’ve kicked himself in the arse if didn’t take it. Yay for him! Plus the commute will be shorter, which is HUGE!
So my attempt to document 2007 with a picture a day – yah, futile, I know. Maybe I’ll try starting again on my b-day…anyways, where was I going with this…oh yeah, so the photographer that I think I am, I’m always looking for new photo ideas and I stumbled upon this site: Photojojo. Can’t remember how I found it, DailyCandy or RookieMoms most likely. Am loving their ideas (found the original pic-a-day idea here) and the fact that they use the word “shiz” on their homepage – maybe just maybe I’ll start acting on them!
- wearing flip-flops and tank tops to work
- naps
- not feeling too guilty for not working out
- strong healthy nails
- strong healthy hair that doesn’t fall out
- naps – hey if you have the time to sleep, take it!
- the not-so-occasional (yah, more like daily) milkshake
- pants with elastic waistbands
- (almost) guilt-free weight gain
- hot fudge sundaes
Since I’ve been back to work, I would say about 100% of the people that I run into ask me how it is being a new mom. I love it! I would say that 90% of those people are somewhat surprised that I am back to work. It’s hard work. Do you miss her? I don’t know how you do it. Then, when I say that she’s in daycare, that brings on the “i’m sorry to hear that” look. You know, that look. All I can say, it needs to be done, so I just deal. Of course, I have a choice, we all have choices. This is by far one of the harder ones to decide on, but at least she’s getting socialized and being introduced to new people, places, sounds. That’s what I keep telling myself at least.
Speaking of tough decisions, I think that S & I have finally decided where we’re going on vacation. The Emerald Isle it will be…I think. It’s going to be a plan as we go type thing – well, some stuff planned ahead of time. So it’ll either be very stressful or very fun. Let’s hope for the latter.
