ack! where has time gone? mads starts day care part-time…TOMORROW!
(sorry, no pic for friday.)
saturday, we ventured to the east bay and my friend dani and her baby girl took us on a breathtaking (literally), butt-burning hike in the oakland hills.
it was a SUPER steep hike and i mean 80-degree-incline steep! not to mention the 14 pounder you’re carrying in the bjorn as you ascend. once you think the worst is over, it comes at you with another hill to climb – of course it saves the worst for last. it was a biatch of a hike, but glad we did it. (above is the view from the oakland hills – lame, we forgot our camera at home.)
it’s on
this indeed will be a very interesting year in politics!
with mads in bed early that night, i had my opportunity to make a yummy, yet easy and no-fuss dinner.
roasted lamb, tomatoes, potatoes and garlic. (there was a salad…) s thought that i went all out, but it was fairly easy to prepare.
fort funston, again
wednesday we headed out to fort funston again with lucie
happy 5 months!
5 months ago today…hard to believe that time has gone by so quickly.
Finally, someone smiles during bathtime!
This was, of course, before she splashed me with water!
So last night, Aunt Katie & Uncle Matt agreed to babysit Mads while S and I could enjoy a dinner out. She wasn’t quite the child from hell – she did scream for about 30m, before falling asleep – and they had a good time…and they even offered to babysit again! I am grateful for their offer as a few hours out is what we really needed. It felt good to eat a dee-lish meal (started with a peche royal, warm goat cheese with spinach and golden beets, seared duck breast with creamy polenta and kale, a glass of grenache, a shared mousse au chocolat, and a tawny port to wash it all down – and that was just my meal!)
So, on the way back, we caught this view…(we didn’t have a tripod handy, so it’s a bit blurry)
Purdy, isn’t it? I’m glad I live in SF…
Out for a stroll in Glen Canyon…
Thank goodness grandma gave her those cute little furry boots for xmas!
It’s been quite chilly here (relatively speaking)…the governator’s even declared a state of emergency! Isn’t that SO California? To declare a state of EMERGENCY when temps are freezing (I know that there are other reasons; oranges are going to cost a bundle later on!). My friend Maureen and I were discussing this am how we are such the California girls and how we can barely survive this freezing spell. I can’t imagine day-to-day life where temps are this low. I don’t know how my mid-western family & friends do this – props to you!
MoPho of the day (heh, I couldn’t resist)
(Can you believe this January weather we’re having? It was on the chilly side, but still, a beautiful day!)
Mads and I took Lucie for w-a-l-k this morning at fort funston (pictured above). As usual, there were many a dog walker and their packs. I can tell that Lucie misses being part of a pack because she’ll just stand and watch them run and play, and sometimes she’ll insert herself into their games. I feel bad for her, but if it weren’t for her darn ball-centric-alpha-behavior that gets her into trouble…
Additional first words for Mads: “Lucie come NOW! I mean it!”

Sudoku Silliness
In an effort to ward off alzheimer’s, I realized I needed to start exercising my brain a little. Crosswords aren’t really my thing. Though I’d love to complete a NYT puzzle, I’ll have to be happy with the crossword in People. (Sad, I know.) So, I’ve jumped on the sudoku bandwagon and am somewhat hooked! I try and complete a puzzle a day, but it’s so addictive, I need to complete just one more, eh, I have time to do another one…and before you know it, it’s 1am and you’re filling out numbers in boxes, when you should really be getting some much needed sleep! Oh well, at least I’m doing my best to stay “alert” so my kids don’t ship me off to a nursing home when I’m older.
In other news…
S has been in Vegas this week for International porn convention Consumer Electronics Show (or so he says…heh), leaving me to fend for myself. (Partly true, my mom has been staying with us to help out.) I was thinking now that peanut’s older (read: sleeping through the night), being home wouldn’t be so bad. Wrong. The reason she’s sleeping through the night is because she barely sleeps all day! (I guess I can’t complain about that one, huh? However, it’s taken me 3 days to watch Bad Education.) I thought that I’d be less tired. Wrong again…so I’m off to bed now. Perhaps, just one sudoku puzzle before…
…that is Madison’s face. It’s unbelievable how fast her little nails grow!
1 bottle of 100% formula! Yay!
not even a week into the year and i’m already lagging on this pic-a-day thing.
friday, i made a yummy potato gratin to accompany our steaks
saturday, i was too consumed with a baby shower and sudoku puzzles, so no pic, but here are two from today (and one from last week).
here’s mads trying the sitting thing
