Random bits of life

No, peanut hasn’t uttered her first words, but she is cooing a lot lately and it’s kinda cute.

(for the record, i started writing this entry 30 october 2006, 15h31m)

Anyways, I was thinking what other fun words (other than mama, papa, etc.) could be her first, so I put together a tiny list here:

  • fabulous
  • Prada
  • (french expletive)
  • shopping
  • coupon code
  • platinum
  • shoe
  • (english expletive)
  • single malt
  • wine

This list, of course, based on people she sees and or hears on a (semi-) regular basis.

Watch out Rachael Ray!

Day Care needed…like, soon!

The procrastinator that I am, I still have yet to find day care options for Mads. And February is drawing near. I am freaking out!

As if I needed to be watching even more television…

…I am getting into The Amazing Race. Good or bad, you tell me. Anyways, I’m watching, and of course one of the contestants looks uber-familiar. I still can’t place him, but he’s from SF and I know that I’ve seen him somewheres. S thinks that I know everybody since I see a familiar face on tv every now and then, especially on shows we watch (The Sopranos, 24, Desperate Housewives, the local news).

That’s all for now folks, I need to get Mads ready for her first halloween party. Costume pix to be posted soon!

I thought her name was Thelma, but apparently I’m mistaken.

Anyways, as I said yesterday…”Jinkies!” Okay, not quite the night from heck, or a full evening of sleep, but she slept for 5-1/2 hours last night. I guess I shouldn’t be complaining – it could be worse…a lot worse.

…because something miraculous happened last night. Mads slept from 10 last night to 6.30 this morning. You do the math folks. She slept for more than 8 hours! Of course, tonight will be the night from hell I’m sure. However, I remember someone telling me that once babies reach 10-11 pounds, it’s metabolically unnecessary for them to eat during the night, therefore, they’re more likely to sleep through the night. (At her last physical, she weighed in at 10lbs 8oz.)

Music Rant

I really want to NOT like the Pussycat Dolls, because they’re just so lame, but d*** their songs ‘cuz they’re catchy as heck and when you feature Snoop Dogg, it can’t be all that bad, right? Consolation: they’re not on my iPod.

Same goes for Fergie – have you heard Fergalicious? It samples all the great early hip-hop in one song! Reminds me of the JJ Fad days – Supersonic, anyone? Yes, this is on my iPod.

Lucie news

Many have asked how Lucie is dealing with the new addition – well, to put it bluntly, Lucie could care less. There are those moments when Mads is screaming her little head off and Lucie is the first to run to the crib, but for the most part, I don’t think Lucie minds. She’s actually been very patient and that’s what makes her the best dog in the world!

Sadly, Lucie has been sick the past few days. Coughing and hacking up a storm. We all took her to the vet hospital Sunday and she was given some antibiotics and a cough suppresant. She may have kennel cough. How she got it, I have no idea since all her vaccines are up to date. She’s getting better and only coughs when she gets excited (which is easily and often). If she’s not better by Thursday, back to the vet. Her energy level is the same, though just watching her cough looks so painful and uncomfortable.

Rachael Ray – my new hero

Now that my time to cook is limited, Rachael Ray is my go-to gal. Last night, I whipped up a nice minestra in less than 30 minutes and it was quite tasty.

Finally, an Iron Chef America I’ll watch – did you see the promo for the Giada v. Rachael show?

…today is International Moment of Frustration Scream day? Brilliant.

You know you’re tired when you put your piece of cheddar not on the wheat thin, but on the liver cookie made for your dog and put it in your mouth. Luckily, I realized what I was doing before I bit into the darn thing.

Drats! Too late to pick up this costume! Oh well, the one we have is cute enough!

That’s what I’m wondering when I venture out with both Madison and Lucie. Practically everywhere I go with the babe in tow, I get a lot of the “that’s great you’re up and about”. Well, am I supposed to be cooped up in my house all day in my jammies? I guess since labor wasn’t that long for me, I needed less time to recuperate?

Just let go

I’m finding it very difficult to let go of the little things (laundry, dishes, clutter) during the day, that I rarely take naps. Of course, if I’m nodding off while feeding Mads at 2 in the afternoon, then yes, I’ll nap and if I lose composure and completely break down, then yes, I’ll take it easy that day. As you moms out there know, there are the good days and then there are the bad days, but you just gotta take it one day at a time.

So last weekend S was in SoCal for some sort of conference – what kind of conference takes place on a weekend? (Just kidding!) Thankfully, my mom stayed the weekend and it was a godsend. I had to get through Thursday night and Friday day on my own – which was difficult since I was sick and running a fever. It was nice having her here since we would take turns watching Mads or take care of those little things around the house. Saturday, we went to the Appel & Frank Babies and Babes shopping event at the JCC – picked up some cute things and made a stop at Day One. Later that afternoon, my cousin and her husband came over with their 9-mo old daughter, Kadybug. They too, were a godsend as I was able to take Lucie out for some proper park time while they watched Mads.

Here’s a picture of the two girls…

KadyMads

Photo taken just as Kadybug is about pull on Madison’s hair – she’s apparently in a “pulling” phase.

Transition this

Even though the massive weight loss immediately after birth was great, I still cannot fit into my “normal” jeans. So I went to Old Navy to buy some transition jeans – I got tired of wearing S’ jeans as they gave no shape to my smaller-yet-still-big-hips-and-bootie-area. Bought a pair, they fit, washed ’em and now they’re too big! The transition jeans I bought at the beginning of the pregnancy fit – they’re definitely not Sevens or Rock & Republics. Yah, yah, 9 months up, 9 months down, I know. I’ll get to those size 29 jeans someday…

On a related topic, I started working out – albeit, not regularly – walking everyday with Lucie and Mads (either pushing her in the poussette or carrying her in the bjorn), started yoga and a special post-natal mom and baby workout. The post-natal workout was actually developed and produced by two college friends of mine. So, to show my support, I bought their DVD and just love! the workout. Mads loves it too as she falls asleep – until we get to the floor work and I have to place her on the floor – while I’m working out.
