Random bits of life

at this rate, i could start a separate blog for crappy concert pix since my mophone is SO good at it!

these were taken at the shoreline amphitheatre in mountain view this past friday. ’twas a fantastic evening with will, jon, chris and guy (also known collectively as Coldplay). it was a such a great show i’d honestly pay to see them perform live again! (we could’ve done without the opening act however.) S was pretty impressed with the guitarist’s ability and how the drummer was just banging the crap out of the drum set – a good banging, that is. they performed little from their new album, a lot from their previous albums, and paid a tribute to Johnny Cash both by performing a song intended to be recorded with him and their rendition of Ring of Fire, which, bless their english hearts, wasn’t quite the same as the original.

walking through the parking lot, it was evident that coldplay has reached mainstream – SUVs, BMWs and the occasional Porsche were abound. (We had taken the Golf to the concert.) on the other hand, now that they are so mainstream, i’m glad that they’re using their popularity to raise awareness on fair trade and promote the one campaign.

Reads: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini – a fabulous book! A wonderful story that begins in pre-war Afghanistan, travels to the Bay Area and comes full circle to “present-day” Afghanistan. I couldn’t put it down!

Tube: Being Bobby Brown on Bravo – just like that accident on the freeway, you just can’t help but look!

Tunes: Zucchero & Co. – Italian superstar teams up with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, Sting and Vanessa Carlton and puts out an album that has a little bit of everything.

Beverage: Diamond Fizz

2 ounces gin
juice of ½ lemon
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
chilled Champagne or Sparkling Wine

Shake gin, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a highball glass over two ice cubes. Fill with chilled champagne, stir, and serve in a highball.

Eats: Ratatouille (from Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking, vol. 1) – perfect summer dish to utilize those tomatoes!

So, Lucie was at the vet today to see about some allergies that had been bothering her. Unfortunately, allergies weren’t the only thing her vet commented on. Additional to the slight redness in her ears…Lucie, 2 year, 7 month-old Lucie, weighed in at 78.9 pounds! We’ve been instructed to cut back on her morning and evening feedings (and most likely, the cookies too!). Everyone in Chez Rebaud is on a reduced intake plan now!

In other news…
(more…)

S + I made a trip out to NYC for a long weekend. S was there for business Thursday and Friday; I was there for the shopping. (Isn’t that always the case?)

It was Sylvain’s first time to NYC, my third. (We didn’t catch any shows, though Spamalot looked like it would be lots of fun!)

Highlights included:

*Constant jaw dropping at Bergdorf with my mom’s friend Marie

*Shopping on 5th, Park and Madison Avenues

*Being bombarded by perfume / cologne boys and girls to try Gucci Envy, SJP’s new scent and Courduroy at Macy’s and Bloomies

*Dinner with S and his coworkers at Nonna in the UWS: great Italian eats, great company, lots of wine and lots of limoncello make for a F-U-N evening

*Catching a jazz band at Dizzy’s at the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle

*Rockefeller Center, coffee beans at Dean & Deluca, Bryant Park and Grand Central Station

*Hanging out in Washington Square

*Strolling thru the Village / NYU and more shopping in SoHo

*Fabulous Korean food in Little Italy

*Even more fabulous Chocolate and Hazelnut gelato in Little Italy and drooling over the various biscottis and cannolis in the pastry shops

*A Bagel Sunday brunch in the Park

*Visit to the WTC site – way intense, I actually shed a tear or two

*Chilling in Battery Park city with views of Lady Liberty

*Hot Pastrami sandwiches at Carnegie Deli

Whew! That was a lot for the long weekend. (Alas, no celebrity sightings this time.) All this in 90+ degree and humid weather – ugh. We’re glad to be home.

Here’s a recent picture of my nephew and niece…

Aren’t they the cutest? Leeloo has changed so much since we saw her at Christmas – it’s amazing!

So do you think that if we fed Lucie scrambled eggs, she could make the swim from Alcatraz to SF?
